For the first time since his headline-grabbing split from Kim Kardashian, Kris Humphries is speaking out.

Accompanied by his mom, the basketballer appeared on Good Morning America today, where, of course, he was peppered with questions about his ill-fated relationship.

So what'd he have to say? And how's he holding up?

"It's going good," he said. "I'm excited to be close to back to playing basketball. In the offseason, I've been doing a lot of things with my foundation, spending time with my family, working on my game a lot."

Intent to focus more on the future than the past, Humphries masterfully deflected the more personal questions that came his way, though didn't avoid them altogether.

"It's been different, but through everything I'm just focused on family and preparing for basketball—you know, basketball is something I've always taken very serious—and moving forward.

"You know, for me, it's just…certain things happen in life, and you've gotta move on. I'm excited to be where I'm at with the NBA season coming up, and I'm ready to go."

He went on, "Really, right now I'm focused on basketball, and other things will take care of themselves."

When asked whether the ever-present reality cameras played any role in the end of his marriage, he nobly didn't assign any undue blame.

"I can't say for sure or not for sure, it's the only time I've been married, so…I've been in front of cameras in the NBA since I was 19 years old, so it's a different level, but for me it's all about moving forward. Life is more about how you can help other people and making the most out of your platform—that's what I'm really focused on."

He also noted, when asked, that he never actually watched the Kardashians' reality shows on TV before, so his viewing schedule, at least, wouldn't be affected.

"I've never been someone who really watched the show on TV or anything," he said, going on to field a question as to whether or not he thought his public image had or would take a hit based on his depiction the Kourtney & Kim Take New York.

"I think that if people know me, they know who I am and what I stand for, I think they'll know that I love to give back and I'm a fun guy. I don't really play into all the gossip and things."

Then it was time for the hardball question, as the interviewer asked Humphries if he was still in love with Kim.

"Ha, this guy," he laughed. "I'm focused on what I can control, which is being ready to play ball and supporting my mom and her cookie bake today."

And yes, later in the show, Kris and his mom did indeed return to the stage to bake their family's chocolate chip butter cookie recipe alongside Robin Roberts and Sam Champion.

Moving on and filling up!
