Kimora Cops a Plea

Even multimillionaires eventually have to pull over for the police.

Kimora Lee Simmons, wife of hip-hop icon Russell Simmons, copped to as much yesterday in a plea that will net her six months probation stemming from a 2004 incident in which she allegedly ignored New Jersey's finest for miles as they tried in vain to pull her over.

The Baby Phat clothing line creative director pleaded guilty Tuesday in a Bergen County Court to careless driving.

Simmons' lawyer, Brian Neary, characterized the entire 2004 car chase "an unfortunate incident."

Police were flummoxed by the diva's behavior last July when they attempted to pull over Simmons for a faulty tailight, only to wind up trailing her for miles until the former model pulled into her Saddle River mansion.

Once stopped, police found a small amount of marijuana in her car.

She was arrested outside her lavish estate as cops marveled at how the fashionista could have not heard their sirens for miles.

Shortly after her arrest, the fashion purveyor's lawyer issued a fiery statement.

"It's our perception that this is just another example of a prominent member of the hip-hop community being made an example of," her attorney said last year. "The Simmons family is extremely involved in their community and this is an attempt to denigrate Kimora's good name and that of her family. We deny any wrongdoing whatsoever."

But Wednesday, cooler heads prevailed as both authorities and Simmons came to an agreement regarding the chase.

"This is certainly an aberration, a one-time mistake of judgment," Assistant Prosecutor Wayne Mello said.

Per the terms of her plea, Simmons must enter Bergen County's pretrial intervention program for nonviolent first offenders. Once Simmons successfully completes the program, all the charges against her will be dropped.
