Kelly Clarkson's Idle Time
This isn't the type of idle she had in mind.
Kelly Clarkson has been forced to postpone two tour dates and cancel several more after being diagnosed last week with bronchitis.
The original American Idol title holder skipped two performances in Southern California last week after doctors advised her to rest up. According to Clarkson's record label, the fledgling diva had planned to continue her tour, but fell ill during a soundcheck Friday and canceled three more concerts after failing to make it through an entire rehearsal.
The "Since U Been Gone" purveyor's lingering illness led to the postponement of shows last Friday in Reno, Saturday in Las Vegas and Monday in Spokane, Washington.
The Breakaway singer will likely also scrap the remaining two dates of her Hazel Eyes tour, Tuesday in Puyallup, Washington, and the tour wrapper Friday in Pensacola, Florida. According to Clarkson's Website, kellyclarksonweb.com, all tour dates taking place after Sept. 6 will be rescheduled.
Clarkson was originally slated to perform this Thursday at New Orleans' Lakefront Arena, but in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, all shows at the venue were canceled.
Despite her bout with bronchitis, Clarkson did make one performance over the weekend.
The Texas-born singer offered an emotional rendition of "Shelter" during Saturday's ReAct Now: Music & Relief hurricane relief telethon simulcast on MTV, VH1 and CMT.
Her detour to sick bay aside, it's been a banner year for the pop star. Her sophomore album, Breakaway, has gone triple-platinum, and last month she won big at both the Teen Choice, tripling up with Best Artist, Best Female and Best Single, and MTV Video Music Awards, where she nabbed Best Female and Pop Video honors.
Clarkson's rescheduled tour dates are expected to take place later this year, with previously purchased tickets to be honored for all shows.
