Her performance caught the eye of Dawson's Creek creator Kevin Williamson, who asked the young actress to test for show. Holmes nabbed the part of Joey Potter on the teenage WB drama, which lasted for six seasons from 1998-2003 and made her a breakout star. In April 2006, Holmes gave birth to a daughter named Suri. The couple kept their new baby out of the public eye for six months before posing with their bundle of joy on the cover of Vanity Fair in October. "This is my future," Holmes said. "This is my family and I care so much about them." The following month, Holmes and Cruise hosted numerous celebrity guests for their lavish wedding at Odescalchi Castle on Lake Bracciano in Italy.
In 2008, Holmes took a break from film and made her Broadway debut in Arthur Miller's All My Sons. In 2009, she returned to the big screen in the indie flick The Romantics, which received critical acclaim. Holmes also branched out and launched her own fashion line with stylist Jeanne Yang called Holmes & Yang.
