Kate Sought for Coke Quiz

London's calling for Kate Moss. Unfortunately, the supermodel isn't answering just yet.

British police are urging Moss to return to the U.K. for questioning over the alleged cocaine use that temporarily felled her fashion career.

"We would like to appeal for her to return, see us and tell us her side of the story," Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Tarique Ghaffur said in a statement Thursday.

"For everybody's sake, and for her to move on, the sooner she speaks to us the better," he continued.

Moss, however, has yet to respond to the officers' request to return to London, and newspaper reports claim the supermodel, who recently purchased a Los Angeles apartment, plans to permanently settle in the U.S.

"We wish for the investigation to take its course, and she would be dealt with very fairly and proportionately, as would be the case with anybody else," Ghaffur added.

Ghaffur also told the paper that Scotland Yard would not push for a formal extradition, but that it was increasingly frustrated over the length of the long-running saga.

Officers first attempted to question Moss last fall, when the grainy photos of the supermodel looking to be snorting cocaine first surfaced. However, she was already out of the country, having checked into rehab in Arizona. Reps for Moss told police she would be back in London before Christmas, but she never returned.

Ghaffur said he felt he had no other recourse than to make a public statement calling on the runway vet to return home.

"There has been a lot of speculation about whether she has decided to stay in the United States," Ghaffur said. "But we have an investigation to carry out and we need to speak to her as soon as possible."

For her part, an unnamed friend of Moss' tells Britain's Sun tabloid that she has no plans to stay abroad permanently.

"Her work commitments have kept her out of the country, and when the timetable allows she will return," the friend said.

The investigation was sparked three months ago, when an undercover Daily Mirror tabloid reporter recorded footage of 31-year-old Moss and her then-boyfriend Pete Doherty allegedly snorting lines of cocaine in a West London recording studio.

"What we have done so far is conducted searches of the studios where the matter was filmed, in addition to obtaining the full digital recording of the incident, which is currently being closely studied by the investigative team," Ghaffur said.

"The net on others involved is closing in, and there will be arrests."

When Moss does return to London, Ghaffur says the supermodel will be arrested and interviewed "under caution," though it's widely believed that she will not be charged and instead given a warning.

Police have zeroed in on two suspects in the incident, both close friends of 26-year-old Doherty, who are believed to have set up the supermodel in exchange for a hefty payout from the Daily Mirror.

"I hope she will see reason," Ghaffur said. "It is not going away and I hope she decides to cooperate."
