Kate Moss: Model Mom
One waif of a supermodel has given birth to one waif of a baby.
Kate Moss, the 28-year-old catwalker whose claim to fame is her rail-thin figure, has given birth to a baby girl.
"Both Kate and the baby are in the best of health," her agency, Storm Models modeling agency said in a statement. "Kate gave natural birth to a beautiful baby girl."
No further details were coughed up by Moss' camp. But London's Daily Mirror reports that Moss and her boyfriend, magazine publisher Jefferson Hack, welcomed a 6 1/2-pound baby into the world on Sunday in a hospital in West London, and they have decided to name her Lola.
A hospital source tells the Mirror that "Kate and Jefferson are deliriously happy."
According to the paper, the fashionista was chowing down (rather uncharacteristically if her skin-and-bones figures is any indication of her eating habits) at a Greek restaurant with Hack, publisher of the style rag Dazed & Confused, Jude Law and his wife, Sadie Frost, when she went into labor. Her boyfriend quickly raced her to the St. John and Elizabeth Hospital just in time to welcome their new bambino into the world.
(Incidentally, Frost and Law recently welcomed a pint-sized addition to their brood with the help of none other than Moss. The two friends had almost simultaneous pregnancies, and when Frost went into premature labor two weeks ago, Moss was on hand to rush her to the hospital. Law was on location in North Carolina shooting Cold Mountain and almost missed the birth of Rudy Law on September 12.)
Little Lola is the first baby for Moss, who has been a fixture on the world's runways since the age of 14. Her biggest claim to fame was the launch of Calvin Klein's infamous "heroin chic" waif look in the early '90s, a departure from the all-American curves of such '80s babes as Christie Brinkley and Cindy Crawford. Since her debut in the fashion world, Moss has graced hundreds of magazine covers and has worked the runways for the top designers, amassing a fortune valued at close to $30 million.
Before settling down into motherhood, Moss made headlines for her battles with drugs and alcohol. She did a stint in rehab for her addictions in 1998, after claiming she hadn't been sober on the catwalk for more than 10 years.
Moss has also made headlines for her high-profile love life, dating the likes of Johnny Depp and Spacehog guitarist Antony Langdon.
