Justin in Sync with McDonald's

That's one way to score free McGriddles...

Popster Justin Timberlake is set to headline a new series of commercials for McDonald's, the fast-food giant announced Tuesday.

The ad campaign, entitled "I'm lovin' it," was to debut Tuesday in Germany, before invading the States on September 29.

The 21-year-old Timberlake previously hawked Happy Meals, et al., as a member of 'N Sync. His ex-main dish, Britney Spears, also once had a sponsorship deal with the Big Mac movers.

In a statement, the boy-bander turned solo artist said it was cool to be part of the restaurant chain's stepped-up efforts to acquaint teenagers with the joys of Scottish-American cuisine. (We paraphrase.)

"We share the same crowd--people who like to have fun," Timberlake said.

Timberlake turns jingle singer in the first spot unveiled. Per Adweek magazine, he's seen on camera only briefly.

The Timberlake deal comes days after McDonald's promoted Ronald McDonald, the company's spokesclown, to "Chief Happiness Officer." The spoilsport New York Times referred to the title as "fanciful."

According to the paper, McDonald's will be relying on both McDonald and Timberlake to lure more kids and teens to the Golden Arches.

"I'm lovin' it," McDonald said in a statement, echoing the Timberlake-crooned slogan, "not only my new title, but the opportunity to expand my role to keep doing what I love."

Per the corporate jester, Ronald McDonald loves "making people laugh, providing a helping hand and, most importantly, being happy." Sadly, longtime chum Grimace was not mentioned.

Timberlake, meanwhile, has been known to be serious about beef patties. In January, British tabs reported he spurned autograph seekers at a Planet Hollywood, telling the fans, "I'm just here for a [freakin'] burger," before being seated behind a screen to enjoy his meal in private.

Last week, the Justified star picked up three trophies at the MTV Video Music Awards, including one for Best Male Video of the Year.

While his solo career continues to cruise, Timberlake has been reunited with three of his 'N Sync mates, if only briefly, and if only in court papers.

Timberlake, J.C. Chasez, Lance Bass and Joey Fatone have coughed up about $4,200 to fill Columbus, Ohio's coffers and settle a tax bill, per the Smoking Gun and wire reports.

In May, a judge issued two default judgments against the foursome and their company, Zeeks, citing unpaid city income taxes totaling more than $8,300. The fifth 'N Sync member, Chris Kirkpatrick, was not named in the complaints, posted in their entirety on the Smoking Gun.

Officials said the popsters tallied up the taxes while "engaged in business" in Columbus in 2000 and 2001. (Translation: They played concerts there.) Columbus and other some cities tax performers and pro athletes who draw paychecks through local gigs.
