Just Another Doherty Drug Bust
Last month, Pete Doherty told a judge his friends had issued him an ultimatum: "drugs or them."
Apparently, it wasn't much of a choice.
The troubled Babyshambles frontman was arrested Saturday for allegedly possessing crack cocaine and marijuana, according to published reports.
Doherty was reportedly driving his Jaguar through central London at around 10 p.m., when he was stopped by police and taken into custody.
He spent the night in jail and was released on bail Sunday, after being ordered to return next month for questioning.
The latest arrest comes after Doherty vowed to clean up his act at a progress report hearing last month.
The rocker rolled into court 30 minutes late and admitted he could not provide a negative drug test, but earned praise from the judge for showing up at all.
"The fact you've turned up shows cooperation—more than cooperation—and there is no risk of you breaching this order," Judge Jane McIvor said at the time.
It seems she may have been a little too optimistic.
Though Doherty said last month that he was "quite keen" to provide the court with a clean drug test "as soon as possible, really," it's unclear whether he had a specific time frame in mind.
His latest arrest could potentially interfere with a string of upcoming Babyshambles shows, including festival dates in July and August and an arena tour launching in November.
While McIvor has so far proven extremely lenient with regard to Doherty's struggle with addiction, she warned the singer last September that he would face jail time if he continued using drugs.
