Jude and Sadie Officially Over
A permanent frost has settled over Jude Law's marriage.
On Wednesday, Law's now former missus, Sadie Frost, was granted a decree nisi (interim divorce) from her Oscar-nominated hubby.
The legal split comes 10 months after the duo parted ways on grounds of his alleged unreasonable behavior and two months after she "reluctantly" decided the marriage was over.
Law didn't contest the divorce proceedings, which are expected to be finalized within days.
Law, 30, and Frost, 35, were hitched in 1997 and are parents jointly to daughter Iris, 2, and sons Rafferty, 7, and Rudy, 11 months. Frost also has a son, Finley, from a previous marriage to Gary Kemp of the 1980s pop outfit Spandau Ballet.
Court documents show Frost blamed Law's behavior after the birth of their son, Rudy, for increasing "the effect of postnatal depression leading me to have to take treatment three times."
When asked if Law's behavior was continuing, Frost answered no. For the record, Frost listed January 2003 as the last time Law acted unreasonably, the same month Frost denounced rumors of a suicide attempt and revealed she was being treated for postpartum depression.
In March, British tabs branded Nicole Kidman, Law's costar in the upcoming Civil War epic Cold Mountain, as the other woman behind the breakup. Kidman has since won "substantial" damages and apologies from the Daily Mail and The Sun for the repudiated story.
While the couple issued no comment on Wednesday, prior statements indicate the divorce will be as amicable as possible. "We will do everything in our power to make certain that this is as painless a process as possible for the benefit of the children," said Frost in August.
Law and Frost met in 1994 on the set of nihilistic teen drama Shopping. At the time, both were up-and-coming British actors, with the older Frost the more established of the two.
By the time they wed, in September 1997, Law was crossing over to Hollywood, with a costarring role in the sci-fi thriller Gattaca. He went on to secure leading-man status in Enemy at the Gates and A.I. He earned a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for 1999's The Talented Mr. Ripley.
Even as his star rose, Law and Frost continued to work together in films such as Bent, and with their production company, Natural Nylon, with fellow U.K. natives Ewan McGregor and Jonny Lee Miller, Angelina Jolie's first husband.
Natural Nylon, like the Law-Frost marriage, unraveled. Law severed his ties with the company in January.
Law will next be seen on the big screen in Cold Mountain, due out at Christmas. Frost was last seen on the little screen in the British TV series The Fear. She's also well known across the Atlantic for a line of designer underwear.
