John Popper Unplugged

At this point, 32-year-old Blues Traveler singer/harmonica player John Popper could probably use a good run around...the track, that is.

The corpulent frontman, well known for belting out such hits as, well, "Runaround," was released from Los Angeles' Cedars Sinai Hospital Saturday, a day after undergoing an angioplasty procedure to clear a blocked coronary artery, according to a statement on his band's Website (www.bluestraveler.com).

The singer checked himself into the hospital last Thursday, complaining of chest pains that had plagued him for three months.

Because of that, Blues Traveler had to cancel its annual Fourth of July performance at Denver's Red Rocks Amphitheater, a gig they've played for the past seven years. The band's also nixed its remaining July concerts.

Popper is resting up for a series of solo shows in the United States and Canada later this summer, the statement says. Those shows are in support of his first solo album, Zygote, which will be released September 7.
