John Mayer Predicts the Fall of Twitter

John Mayer decided to break his self-imposed silence to share his thoughts on Twitter because he knows you've all been waiting to know his great insight into the future of social media.

At ASCAP's 2010 "I Create Music" Expo, the singer admits he's been wrangling with a really tough decision concerning the microblogging site lately.

"Within in the last couple weeks," he says, "every night I think about canceling my Twitter account because I think it's pretty much done. I just think Twitter as a form of communication, I think it's over to be honest with you."

So why is this the end? Haters and sandwiches. We'll let him explain:

"I would rather see Twitter be a cork board of links to other more important things, because it's really sort of flawed from the beginning. I can't tell you how many times I meet people or I'm having dinner with people who write stuff and they get upset they have haters now, like, ‘Why do I want to invent more reasons to have haters?' I might as well spend that time making a sandwich or building a model ship or something."

Well, this certainly seems more like a reason why Twitter is over for John Mayer, not for everyone else, but it's not like we were expecting a broad answer from the notoriously self-obsessed singer anyway.

For now, he's on light tweeting duty, enduring restless nights for his 3.2 million fans/haters/followers, with this caveat in mind:

"My challenge going forward is to basically disregard the need, the obsessive need for external validation."

Go make a sandwich, John Mayer, and leave the twittering to us @eonline.
