John Cusack, Stalker?

According to Emily Leatherman, John Cusack is thisclose to bum-rushing one of her talk show appearances and being gently escorted offstage. If she had any talk show appearances, that is.

The woman Cusack accused of stalking him for more than 18 months has turned the tables on the actor, taking out a court order barring the Must Love Dogs star from approaching her.

That's serendipity for ya.

Last week, the erstwhile Say Anything star was granted a three-year restraining order against the 31-year-old transient after claiming she exhibited "unusual interest" in him for nearly a year and a half.

Among other unwanted gestures, Cusack claimed Leatherman had stalked him, thrown love letters embedded in bags of screwdrivers and rocks over his fence and regularly showed up at his home, office and places of business. She also reportedly listed Cusack's address as her own and had her mail rerouted to the superstar's address.

The day after being ordered to keep away from the apparent object of her affection, Leatherman took issue with the "stalker" label and spoke out against the claims outlined in Cusack's court documents, particularly letters the Serendipity star claimed to have received from Leatherman detailing plans to harm herself should the actor not respond to her overtures.

"I've never written any of that," she told the Associated Press. "I feel I've been set up to look like a stalker."

Leatherman, who must stay 500 feet away from the actor at all times, said she sent no more than two letters to Cusack's L.A. home. She also asserted the letters weren't filled with sweet nothings, but were simply a plea for help.

Leatherman claimed Cusack was just one of several famous people she was trying to contact, to get them to use their fame to shed light on her personal plight. She alleged that in 2001 she was drugged and raped by several men but police refused to take down a report. Accordingly, she says she wants to enlist the aid of celebrities so they can tell her story to the world.

According to TMZ.com, Leatherman claims that she contacted Tom Cruise with similar requests and that his PR assistant gave her tickets--to what is unknown--to see the superstar. Of course, that would-be meet-up also ended up in court.

Last week, Leatherman acknowledged to the judge overseeing the Cusack case that she had been in a similar legal snafu with Cruise.

There's been no immediate comment from Camp Cusack. The actor is currently filming the indie drama Grace Is Gone, as a distraught widower who embarks on a road trip with his daughters. Among his other upcoming films are the sci-fi flick Martian Child and the haunted hotel thriller 1408.
