Joey Fatone Off the Market
It's gonna be him.
In news that must be tearing up teenyboppers everywhere, 'N Sync member Joey Fatone has proposed to Kelly Baldwin, his longtime gal-pal and mother of his two-year-old daughter, Brianna.
Fatone let slip news of the engagement while talking to Craig Kilborn on CBS' The Late Late Show Tuesday, telling the talk-show host he popped the question June 18, in Orlando.
The pop singer turned Broadway actor turned Fame host has been dating Baldwin for the last 10 years.
When he finally made up his mind to commit, this lover boy did it in style. Fatone said his girlfriend had wanted the engagement to take place in front of the picturesque Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. Too easy. Instead, Fatone brought the building to Baldwin by draping a billboard of the Palace over the front of his house.
"So, when I drove up I said, 'What's the one place that I didn't take you?' " Fatone said. "She saw the 'Palace of Fine Arts'...I went on my knees, got all teary-eyed and I just froze for a second. So, I was like, 'Hey, will you marry me?' "
A wedding date has not been announced.
Fatone would have found himself hard-pressed to squeeze in a wedding and honeymoon recently. The 26-year-old's schedule has been packed ever since his boy band went on hiatus.
Last summer, Brooklyn-born Fatone starred in the Broadway production of Rent and played a small part in the sleeper hit My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Coming up, he stars in the romantic comedy The Cooler with William H. Macy and the gangsta comedy The Bros. (Baby, you've come a long way since On the Line opposite fellow 'N Syncer Lance Bass.)
Fatone's currently appearing weekly on NBC's Fame as a talent-show judge and working on an as-yet-untitled comedy album of song parodies. At some point, he'll also reunite with his boy-band brethren to work on the next 'N Sync album.
The jokester will be the first of his bandmates to tie the knot. Unlike some of the Backstreet Boys who took a shine to domesticity (see Kevin Richardson and Brian Littrell), the 'N Syncers have been more famous for their love 'em and leave 'em exploits, in particular those of pretty boy Justin Timberlake.
Most recently, Timberlake has been linked to Cameron Diaz, who's recovering from her split with Jared Leto. It has been a busy year for Timberlake since splitting from Britney Spears. His date book has been kept full by rendezvous with everyone from Alyssa Milano to Janet Jackson.
