J.Lo Incorporated
We already have J.Lo the actress, singer, dancer, designer and restaurateur. Soon we'll have J.Lo the perfume. And T-shirt. And greeting card. And much more.
The 31-year-old mini-industry is expanding J.Lo-dom to include a whole line of merchandise, according to Daily Variety.
Lopez has signed an exclusive merchandising and licensing deal with Signatures Networks--the people who brought us the morbidly enticing "KISS Kasket"--to stamp her name and likeness on everything from greeting cards and calendars to back-to-school stuff for the kiddie set. The items will be for sale in record stores, retail stores and on the Web.
Can't wait to buy that J.Lo backpack? Neither can we.
The entertainer's new line of products will also include an assortment of posters, tight-fitting tees and trinkets adorned with her famous figure.
Not bad for a former In Living Color Fly Girl.
Aside from making the Hollywood A-list with starring roles in Selena, Out of Sight and The Wedding Planner, Lopez's last two albums, 2001's J.Lo and this year's J to tha L-O! The Remixes, both debuted at number one on the album charts.
Last year she launched a signature line of clothing, J. Lo by Jennifer Lopez, and earlier this year she opened her own restaurant, Madre's, in Pasadena, California.
This fall, you can smell just like Jennifer when Glow hits the malls. The perfume is being pumped out by fragrance maker Lancaster.
Lopez is just the latest pop-culture fixture to sign with Signatures. The company first gained famed (or infamy) with its coffin/beer cooler, released in conjunction with KISS frontman Gene Simmons and dubbed the "KISS Kasket." More recently, the company inked a huge licensing deal with the Prince of Darkness himself, Ozzy Osbourne, to handle merchandise based on his hit MTV reality family sitcom, The Osbournes.
As for Lopez, the exapansion of her empire comes as her personal life has taken a hit. Sources confirmed last week that her brief union with dancer Cris Judd was over.
Of course, Lopez has a history of taking care of ex-husbands. She hired her first ex, Ojani Noa, to manage Madre's.
Maybe Judd can sell those J.Lo pencil sets.
