Spoiler Alert: The best is yet to come this TV season.
Out of all the 2011-12 drama pilots we've seen, J.J. Abrams' midseason thriller Alcatraz has us the most excited.
Tonight, Fox is unveiling the first promo for the highly anticipated Alcatraz during Game 1 of the World Series. But we have the exclusive video for you right now...
Holy Awesome! J.J. Abrams and Supernatural Creator Eric Kripke Team Up for NBC Pilot
We got a good feeling about this.
Fans of awesome entertainment, we sincerely hope you are sitting, because this awesome news is sure to knock you off your feet. Mega-producer J.J. Abrams (Lost, Star Trek, Super 8, etc.) and Eric Kripke, creator of the CW's cult favorite Supernatural, are reportedly teaming up for a pilot for NBC.
So what is the project about? And how did this epic pairing come to be?
Five Awesome Things That Fell From Space This Year
Wow, NASA, thanks for scaring our pants off with that whole satellite falling from the sky thing. We loved all those stories about 100 chunks of hot metal that could land anywhere on Earth.
Good news is that the stupid UARS satellite crashed this morning, and nobody got hurt. We can't say the same about Hollywood!
For real, look at the summer of movies we just had. All kinds of crazy stuff fell from the sky, every week.
So here, we've collected the year's bestest bits of Earth-bound space junk:
Movie Review: Secret's Out! Super 8 Ain't So Super
Review in a Hurry: Remember how the writers of Lost kept saying something to the effect of "It's not about the mystery, it's about the characters"? Keep that in mind if you go to Super 8 expecting a monster movie. Writer-director J.J. Abrams' muddled tribute to '80s Spielberg does indeed feature well-rounded human beings, but mostly forgets to put them in an interesting story.
Five Things We (Finally!) Know About Super 8
So, we ask one last time, what is Super 8—besides the reason there's no Star Trek 2 this summer?
Let's review the case file on the under-wraps J.J. Abrams E.T. flick, which unwraps itself at theaters on Friday:
Is Super 8 Too Secret-y for Its Own Good?
Do you know what the surprise is in Super 8? I'm leery of surprise endings ever since M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening. Could this kind of secret-keeping backfire?
—C.C, via the inbox
I'd be leery of surprise endings, too, if I'd paid 13 bucks only to learn that the villain was a bunch of furious trees. But could the big Super 8 reveal really be that lame? I found out for you (spoiler-free, too):
Super 8 Sneaking Into Theaters Early With a Little Help From Twitter
If you absolutely, positively can't wait until Friday to finally find out, once and for all, what exactly is causing all the havoc in Super 8, you're in luck.
While the mysterious new flick from director J.J. Abrams is officially set to open on Friday, eager beavers will be able to check it out a day early in about 300 theaters (including 239 IMAX screens in the U.S. and Canada) thanks to a partnership between Paramount Pictures and Twitter.
As part of the promotion, both companies have set up the hashtag #Super8Secret, which will provide folks a way to buy tickets. And when you do finish watching it, head back to the same hashtag to tell fellow moviegoers how oh-so-incredibly-awesome it was and convince them that they simply won't want to do anything else this weekend but see Super 8.
Well, at least that's the hope.
First Look! Super 8's All About Aliens, Explosions and...Zombies?
The mystery, suspense and drama are all building ahead of Super 8 heading into theaters this weekend.
J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg's suspense thriller about a...um, well, we aren't really sure what it's about. The film is so tightly under wraps all we can discern is that a potentially alien force is unleashed on a small Ohio town following a disastrous train crash. Naturally, it's up to a curious group of kids with a knack for filmmaking to get to the bottom of the ensuing strange events and government cover-up.
But it isn't all big explosions and extraterrestrials. There are actually some tender moments, like star Elle Fanning using her best zombie impression to make costar Joel Courtney fall in love with her. (It works.) Hit the jump for more peeks and tell us what you think: Eager to find out what all the buzz is about?
Super 8: More Sneak Peeks From the Most-Hyped Movie of the Summer
You don't need to tell us, we know that you can't wait to see Super 8.
The J.J. Abrams-directed and Steven Spielberg-produced sci-fi thriller promises to be a glorious mashup of Goonies, E.T., Jurassic Park and War of the Worlds, with a little Stephen King terror thrown in for good measure.
Nerd Alert! Get a Close Encounter With Super 8's New Trailer
We got our first taste of Super 8 during the Super Bowl, and fans had a bigger head start with the movie trailer's leak on Twitter.
But the latest preview offers a full dose of new adventures that will come out of this highly anticipated sci-fi flick. You'll experience fire! Children! Suspenseful music! And strange occurrences.
Well, duh: The masterminds behind the film are Steven Spielberg and J.J. Abrams, whose combined ouevre includes Close Encounters of the Third KInd, E.T., Lost and Cloverfield.
