Jessica Zips Up Daisy Duke
It's official: Jessica Simpson can lay claim to Daisy Duke's short shorts in the upcoming Dukes of Hazzard movie.
The buxom blonde had long been rumored to be the top choice for the role over reported competitors such as Britney Spears, Mandy Moore and Jessica Biel.
The star power she has attained through her hit MTV reality show Newlyweds couldn't have hurt Simpson's chances, since apart from a few guest appearances on That '70s Show, she has little to no formal acting experience.
The "With You" singer will make her big-screen debut alongside Seann William Scott and Johnny Knoxville, who have been cast as Bo and Luke Duke, respectively.
The film is based on the television series which centered on the erratic driving habits of the Duke cousins behind the wheel of their 1969 Dodge, the General Lee. The show ran from 1979 to 1985 on CBS and consistently ranked number one in its time slot.
Dukes is reportedly set to begin production in November, according to Warner Bros. Studios.
The film's not the only project on Simpson's fall schedule.
Despite having made claims that she and hubby Nick Lachey would not be returning to MTV for a third season of Newlyweds, the camera-friendly pair are doing just that. (Little sis Ashlee Simpson made the same claim about her MTV reality show, but she will reportedly also be returning for another season.)
Though they'll celebrate their second anniversary on Oct. 26, the duo have apparently decided to raise the bar on what's considered "newly wed." Filming will reportedly begin in the next few months, with new episodes airing early next year.
Lachey is also trying his hand at acting, appearing in several episodes of Charmed as Alyssa Milano's love interest.
"It's an exciting time in our house to be a thespian," he told AP Radio.
And that's not all. After the success of Nick & Jessica's Variety Hour last spring, the toothy pair will team up for another variety special scheduled to air around Christmas.
