Jermaine Dupri Quits over Boobgate

The fury over Janet Jackson's breast continues to develop.

In reaction to the controversy surrounding his girlfriend's Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction, rapper and music producer Jermaine Dupri resigned from his post as president of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences' Atlanta chapter.

"I feel like I don't want to be a part of something that's not treating musical people in the right light," Dupri said at a press conference. "I feel like what's going on with Janet is very unfair right now."

The announcement came a day after Dupri had stated his intention to steer clear of the Grammy Awards after it was reported that his Nasty gal-pal was no longer welcome.

Jackson was slated to present an award to Luther Vandross, but the ailing crooner is too ill to attend Sunday's ceremony, making Jackson's presence an unnecessary commodity.

Patti LaBelle was reportedly asked to fill Jackson's spot in the musical tribute to Vandross to be performed at the awards show.

Jackson has kept a low profile since releasing her videotaped apology, but that hasn't stopped spammers from capitalizing on the scandal by using her name to flood email inboxes.

Researchers at SurfControl, the world's leading Web and email filtering company, have noted a marked increase over the week in the amount of spam carrying subject lines pertaining to Jackson and Justin Timberlake's revealing halftime performance.

Some of the most popular subject lines, according to SurfContol: "Latest Janet Jackson nude pictures," "Checkout Janet J, she's so hot here," and the ever-clever, "Janet J Nipple Slipple."

All the spam identified thus far took recipients to a site hawking nude celebrity pics, including snaps and videos of Jackson's nipple shield-adorned breast.

"Most of this spam seems to be coming from a single spammer at the moment, but our experience suggests that there's much more to come," Susan Larson, SurfControl's vice president of Global Content, said in a press release. "But since the pictures are so easy to obtain, Janet Jackson may not have the staying power among spammers of Paris Hilton. You can be sure we'll keep abreast of the trend."

In a further Boobgate consequence, MTV, which produced the infamous halftime show, has canceled plans to look back at the show in a behind-the-scenes special.

The network had planned to air an hour-long segment on how the show was produced, but that was before Jackson's slip of the nipple.

Finally, the FCC says it has received a record 200,000 complaints about Jackson's halftime exploits, wiping out the previous mark of 80,000 after Nicole Richie dropped the S-bomb during the Billboard Music Awards last year.

The agency is probing the halftime incident and could decide to levy fines.
