Jeri Ryan Agrees to New Voyage
'Tis a sad day for Trekkies. Seven of Nine is going off the market.
Jeri Ryan announced Monday that she and her boyfriend and business partner, chef Christopher Emé, are going to make it official next year.
The 38-year-old actress told the media the good news while promoting the CBS legal drama Shark during the ongoing Television Critics Association press tour. Ryan plays the tough boss of James Woods' defense lawyer-turned-prosecutor on the freshman series, which is scheduled to follow CSI on Thursday nights.
The former Star Trek: Voyager beauty also filled reporters in on the details of Emé's pretty out-of-this-world proposal.
"He brought me home, covered my eyes and took me up to the bedroom," she said. "He had candles lit everywhere and champagne on ice. He had gotten this huge canvas and painted it with words that said, in French, 'And you come with me forever.' "
Sigh.
Ryan added that she and Emé, whom she owns the West Hollywood restaurant Ortolan with, will probably tie the knot in France's Loire Valley next June. She'll leave the silver catsuit at home, though.
"That's when the rugby World Cup is in Paris," Ryan admitted. "You know I am in love when I'm planning a wedding around a sporting event."
This will be the understanding bride-to-be's second trip down the aisle, her first occurring in 1991 with onetime U.S. Senate candidate Jack Ryan. The pair initially requested that the court keep the terms of their 1999 divorce under wraps, but their messy custody agreement (they have a son named Alex) was unsealed in 2004, when Jack entered Illinois' senatorial race.
Proving that you shouldn't go into the kitchen if you can't take the heat, the documents revealed Ryan's allegations that, during their marriage, her ex had taken her to sex clubs, including one "bizarre club with cages, whips and other apparatus hanging from the ceiling," and encouraged her to get freaky with him in public.
This revelation, not exactly a resume highlight for Jack Ryan, eventually resulted in the Republican candidate withdrawing from the '04 Senate race.
Ryan enjoyed a seven-episode guest spot on The O.C. last year and most recently appeared on Boston Legal and Two and a Half Men.
