Jennifer Hudson Boards the Soul Train
Jennifer Hudson is making this look easy.
Despite not yet having released an album of her own, the Dreamgirls star still reigned supreme at the music-centric Soul Train Music Awards Saturday, taking home the hardware for Entertainer of the Year.
Hudson, who was the pre-announced winner of the award, joined big-screen cohorts Beyoncé Knowles and Jamie Foxx as the evening's big winners, although unlike them—and eight of the evening's 10 winners—she actually showed up for the event.
The Oscar winner managed to make the trek out to Pasadena's Civic Auditorium, something Foxx and Knowles failed to do without explanation.
Maybe the "Irreplaceable" singer, who won for Best Female Single, didn't want to get upstaged by her fellow Dreamgirl, or perhaps she didn't want face time with ceremony cohost and former Destiny's Child mate LeToya Luckett, or maybe she and Jay-Z simply had other plans, since he was also MIA to collect Best Music Video for "Show Me What You Got."
Absentee John Legend took home the Best Male Single award for "Save Room."
The Best Single for a Group, Band or Duo went to Gnarls Barkley for "Crazy." Alas, they decided to skip the proceedings, too.
Foxx and Mary J. Blige won for Male and Female Album of the Year, for Unpredictable and The Breakthrough, respectively. Blige also sat out the show.
Two stars who did make it out to the do were producer Jermaine Dupri, who picked up the night's Outstanding Career Achievement award, and Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, who took home Outstanding Career Achievement in Songwriting.
Two more semi-stars managed to show up: Joining Luckett to emcee the affair was former boy band heartthrob turned solo R&B star Omarion.
The 21st Annual Soul Train Music Awards will air in syndication between Mar. 17-24.
