Jay-Z is getting anxious for his and Beyoncé's baby to arrive.

"I can't wait," the music mogul told me last night at GQ's Men of the Year party at the Chateau Marmont hotel in West Hollywood.

What kind of dad is he hoping to be?

Well...

"Hopefully one that can have conversations," Jay-Z said. "Your child could come to you and have any type of conversation. I always hope for that kind of open relationship."

The rapper refuses to be an absentee parent. His own father walked out on him as a child. But that doesn't mean Jay-Z will simply spoil the child with material things.  "Providing—that's not love," he told GQ. "Being there—that's more important."

As for being named one of the mag's Men of the Year, Jay-Z said, "It's all about confidence. You follow your instincts and do just do what you do."
