Jason Alexander's Sitcom Woes?

What does it mean when the master of your domain hits the road?

In what could mark another problem-plagued post-Seinfeld project, Jason Alexander's new ABC sitcom, Bob Patterson, has lost its executive producer over those infamous "creative differences."

Tim Doyle, the executive producer, show creator and writer, has left after a tete-a-tete with Alexander, according to Daily Variety.

The two apparently disagreed over the show's direction.

It's not known who'll be filling in for Doyle, who cowrote the pilot script with writers Peter Tilden and Ira Behr. Alexander, who stars in the sitcom as a down-on-his-luck motivational speaker, is also an executive producer on Patterson.

While the pilot's already been shot, production doesn't start on Bob Patterson until July. And if Alexander needs some motivation in getting it right, all he need do is look at the case of Michael Richards' post-Seinfeld outing.

Last year, NBC tried to bring the erstwhile Kramer back to prime-time as a bumbling private eye in The Michael Richards Show, but the net was foiled by similar behind-the-scenes retooling.

One of the show's executive producers exited early and a bungled pilot episode ended up needing to be reshot after a major creative overhaul, which included the addition of Tim Meadows and William Devane to the cast.

The makeover didn't help. Critics panned the show, as did viewers, and NBC pulled the plug on the sitcom in December.

As for Bob Patterson, it's due on the ABC schedule this fall, airing Tuesdays at 9 p.m. opposite NBC's Frasier.

If Alexander follows Richards' pratfall into TV oblivion, there's still one ex-Seinfeld principal left to make it good. Julia Louis-Dreyfus' NBC sitcom is slated for a midseason debut.
