James Brown on Rebound

If James Brown's not feeling good quite yet, give him a few days.

The Hardest Working Man in Show Business is working hard on recovering from surgery Wednesday to treat prostate cancer.

"Mr. Brown has successfully undergone a localized prostate cancer procedure and is resting comfortably," the singer's urologist, Dr. James Bennett, said in a statement. "We expect a full recovery. With proper follow-up and care, we can also expect a full cure."

The Godfather of Soul was discharged Wednesday afternoon from Atlanta's Midtown Urology Surgical Center in Atlanta. He will take three weeks off to recuperate.

"Mr. Brown has always been a fighter and we are confident that he will be back 'on the good foot' soon for another 50 years," said manager "SuperFrank" Copsidas.

The 71-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, who also suffers from diabetes, announced the cancer diagnosis last Friday. "I have overcome a lot of things in my life. I will overcome this as well," Brown said at the time.

Brown, who wrapped a two-week Canadian tour last week, is already making post-surgery plans. He is slated to release an autobiography next month, titled I Feel Good: A Memoir of a Life of Soul, and plans to hype the project with a spate of appearances.

He also plans to tour Asia and Australia early next year and is set to release a new single with the Black Eyed Peas in February that will appear on their new album.

The Sex Machine made headlines earlier this year for a marital mini-soap opera that included an arrest for domestic violence, annulment from and reconciliation with wife Tomi Rae. In June, Brown pleaded no contest to a charge stemming from the fight that started it all and vowed to work on his marriage.

Last year, he was honored at the Kennedy Center for being "one of the most influential musicians of the past 50 years."

And last month, six of his songs--"I Got You (I Feel Good)," "Sex Machine," "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag," "It's a Man's Man's Man's World," "Say It Loud--I'm Black and Proud" and "Please, Please, Please"--made Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
