Jadakiss Skates on Pot, Gun Charges

They got Jadakiss in the system, but the "Why" rapper may be singing a happier tune now that he's getting off easy.

The hip-hop star managed to avoid serious punishment for marijuana and gun possession charges Wednesday by agreeing to a deal with North Carolina prosecutors.

If he behaves himself for the next three months, the charges will be dropped.

As a first-time offender, Jada must complete his three-month probation and pony up a $900 fine, along with restitution and court fees. A Cumberland County judge also ordered the rapper to destroy the guns, submit to searches and drug testing at the request of a probation officer and not use or possess illegal drugs.

According to a drug assessment of the rapper by the director of a local alcohol and drug counseling clinic, Jada passed a drug test and his marijuana use was deemed "isolated," per the Fayetteville Observer.

The 29-year-old platinum-selling, New York-based artist was busted July 5 when he was pulled over by an off-duty cop after a member of his crew allegedly threw some firecrackers out of a car window.

Once stopped, the officer stumbled upon firecrackers of an entirely different kind: two loaded .45-caliber Luger pistols and about an ounce of marijuana.

Jada, who was rollin' with a seven-person crew, was in Fayetteville following a concert over the 4th of July weekend. Per reports, he quickly assumed responsibility for the stash and was charged with the possession counts.

After rapping with the Lox and Ruff Ryders, the Yonkers-born Jadakiss released his first solo disc, Kiss That Game Goodbye, in 2001. His follow-up, Kiss of Death, debuted at number one in June. Lately, the rapper has been making headlines as a target for 50 Cent on the diss track "Piggy Bank."

But Jada is taking it all in stride, telling MTV News earlier this month, "There's nothing he can really say about me except he sold more records than me. People don't love me for selling millions of records; they love me because I'm a spitter. I got a good personality, I'm a good guy and that's just it. I'm in the 'hood, I'm hands-on. So he can't destroy me."
