Ja Rule Seized and Sprung
Have weed, will travel.
Ja Rule was busted for pot possession Thursday night, after cops stopped him for failing to signal on a lane change.
The rapper, real name Jeffrey Atkins, was pulled over by New York's finest at 2:19 a.m. in his 2001 Mercedes-Benz on Sixth Avenue in Greenwich Village.
A search turned up less than an ounce of marijuana in Ja's possession. He was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana and driving without a license.
The 28-year-old, who hails from Saddle River, New Jersey, pleaded guilty to driving with a suspended license before Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Shondia Simpson and shelled out $550 in fines and court fees.
The misdemeanor possession charge was then dropped.
But Ja Rule isn't completely off the hook.
He's been ordered to appear in court July 7 to respond to an earlier warrant. Prosecutors told the judge that the "Livin' It Up" singer had an open warrant in Queens from June 7, 1996, for resisting arrest.
Ja Rule, whose album R.U.L.E. will drop in November, has been playing at Summer Jam concerts around the country, along with label mate Ashanti and others.
The music man also has a budding film career. Having already starred in The Fast and the Furious and Scary Movie 3, Ja has three movies on his upcoming slate, including The Cookout, Assault on Precinct 13 and Back in the Day.
