Ja Rule Clears Record
Ja Rule's rap sheet has been wiped clean.
The top-selling hip-hopster put in face time in a Queens courthouse on Wednesday to make good on a 1996 arrest for resisting arrest.
A judge ordered the 28-year-old rapper, whose real name is Jeffrey Atkins, to fork over a $100 dollar fine and closed the case.
Ja Rule and his lawyer said they didn't know that there was a warrant out in the '96 case until the rapper was arrested last week in Manhattan.
The New Jersey native was collared by New York's finest for changing lanes without signaling in the wee hours of July 1. Turns out his license wasn't valid, and a subsequent search of his BMW turned up a small stash of pot.
He pleaded guilty to driving with a suspended license and shelled out $550 in fines and court fees. A misdemeanor possession charge was then dropped.
But when the cops ran Ja Rule's name, they turned up an outstanding warrant for the '96 case, and the "Livin' It Up" singer was ordered to appear in court to answer the charge.
Ja, who has been playing at Summer Jam concerts around the country with labelmate Ashanti and others, has landed four consecutive albums in the Top 10, including two number ones, 2000's Rule 3:36 and 2001's Pain Is Love. His next album, R.U.L.E., a follow-up to last year's charmingly titled Blood in My Eye, will drop in November.
He also has three movies in the pipeline: The Cookout, Assault on Precinct 13 and Back in the Day.
