There are clearly no hard feelings to avenge here.
Despite having handed over the reins of the Robert Downey Jr. money-printing franchise to another director, Jon Favreau is still keeping a, well, iron in the fire, as it happens, signing on to reprise his role as Tony Stark's bodyguard and de facto sidekick in Iron Man 3.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, there's still no word on how big a role Favreau's Happy Hogan will play in the third installment of the Marvel megahit (incidentally, the first of the comic family to go into production since The Avengers vaporized the box office), though if things continue apace, the character who served as a cameo in the first film and significantly grew in substance for the second at least has the potential to wind up as a considerable role.
Filming began on the presumptive blockbuster Wednesday in North Carolina, and Favreau wasted no time in teasing fans with the news, yesterday sending out the briefest afterthought of a tweet, which read simply, "BTW," and linked to a photo of his chair on set emblazoned with his character's name.
But while Favreau is no longer balancing his time between acting and directing—the latter gig was handed off to Kiss Kiss Bang Bang director Shane Black—he continues to pull double duty on the flick, as he's still on board serving as one of the film's executive producers.
Along with Favreau and, of course, Downey, Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle are reprising their roles (alas, Scarlett Johansson probably isn't). Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, James Badge Dale and Ben Kingsley, meanwhile, are new additions to the increasingly formidable cast, while Ashley Hamilton is in talks to play one of the villains, the government cyborg Firepower.
