Imus Back on TV in the Morning

Sure, it's no MSNBC, but Don Imus has a new network to his name.

The controversial Imus in the Morning host has signed a five-year deal with Rural Media Group Inc. to simulcast his radio show when he returns to WABC-AM's airwaves Dec. 3.

The morning talk show will be carried on RFD-TV weekdays 6-9 a.m. and will be rebroadcast 6-9 p.m. each evening. Viewers will also be able to access it via On Demand, should they wish to do so.

The network, which was launched in December 2000, reaches about 30 million homes nationwide and caters to a largely rural audience, with programming such as The Cattle Show, National Tractor Pulling and The Largent and Sons Hereford Cattle Auction.

"Don's passion and understanding of rural America fits in so well with our ongoing effort to bridge city and country folks with this channel," Rural Media Group founder Patrick Gottsch said in a statement.

Imus was very publicly ousted from the airwaves earlier this year after referring to members of the Rutgers women's basketball team as "nappy-headed hos."

After he was pink-slipped by CBS Radio, the outspoken commentator filed a $120 million breach of contract suit, which was later settled in August. Terms of the settlement remained confidential, though reports claimed the network shelled out $20 million to placate the host.

Earlier this month, Citadel Broadcasting Corp. announced it was bringing Imus back to resume airing his opinions in the morning drive-time slot.

"We are ecstatic to bring Don Imus back to morning radio," WABC president and general manager Steve Borneman said at the time. "Don's unique brand of humor, knowledge of the issues and ability to attract big-name guests is unparalleled. He is rested, fired up and ready to do great radio."
