Impersonator Wrangles with Chuck Norris
It seems TV's ass-kickin' Texas Ranger doesn't find look-alike Bill Cavenaugh's act very amusing. Cavenaugh fancied dressing up like Norris' Walker, Texas Ranger character in car ads for a Wisconsin dealership. The ever stone-faced Norris, peeved that fans might actually believe he'd pitch for a Cheeseland car hawker, obtained a cease-and-desist order against Cavenaugh's act.
Now, Cavenaugh is fighting back. (Kind of sounds like the plot of a Norris flick, huh?)
Claiming his inspiration was a thin wallet--Cavenaugh says he might not be able to put his daughter through medical school--the Chuck clone took his battle to the court of public opinion, putting up a billboard in downtown Dallas this week that reads: "Thanks to Chuck Norris, I am an unemployed commercial actor."
The towering sign, which features Cavenaugh clad in Walker duds, has a telephone number you can call to voice your outrage at Norris' action or even offer the impersonator a job. (We're sure for the right price he'd do a birthday party.)
Once again, Norris is unamused. His attorney, Mike Forshey, calls the billboard an "outrageous action." "All Bill Cavenaugh was told he shouldn't do is profit by impersonating Chuck Norris," Forshey says. "If he wants an acting career, he needs to go out and use his own talents, put together his own accomplishments, rather than grabbing hold of Chuck Norris' coattails."
