Idol Train Stops in Paris
The finalists from the last season of American Idol haven't exactly been sitting in neutral, have they?
Paris Bennett, she of the teeny speaking voice yet booming pipes, will be releasing her debut album, Princess P, in March on the indie label 306 Entertainment.
The 18-year-old songstress, who finished fifth on Idol earlier this year, recently shot the music video for her album's first single, "Ordinary Love," in Minneapolis, near her hometown of Edina, Minnesota. The song is headed to radio stations and iTunes this month, while the video is destined for music networks in February, according to a report by Twin Cities station KARE-TV.
Since making her presence known on the Idol stage, Bennett, whose mother and grandmother were both singers in the famed vocal ensemble Sounds of Blackness, has continued to keep her face in the public eye.
After finishing up the American Idols Live tour last summer, Bennett announced at the 2006 BET Awards that she was starting her own clothing line, Tres P, "to help you find your royalty."
Last month she appeared on and sang the theme song for the BET reality show One Night Only, which chronicled a group of New Orleans high school students as they put on the show Dreamgirls at their Hurricane Katrina-damaged school.
Speaking about her upcoming single, Bennet called it "real popish, but hip-hop."
"It's giving you a whole Queen rock-and-roll thing going on," she said. "It's a crazy track in itself and it's speaking of something real. It's talking about relationships and it's real serious, and I think it's something that girls nowadays, my age, college-wise, high school-wise, something that we really need to hit on for a moment."
Bennett's upcoming freshman effort will be the eighth record to either hit the shelves or be in the works courtesy of last season's Idol crop. Last week, eighth runner-up Bucky Covington inked a deal with Rascal Flatts' label, Lyric Street Records.
The highly anticipated sixth season of American Idol has its two-hour premiere Tuesday on Fox.
