The Mane Event: Red Carpet Hair Made Easy

Stars spend hours getting brushed and blow-dried for big red carpet nights like the Academy Awards—after all, they are being scrutinized by billions. But renowned hair stylist Frederic Fekkai says that because today's styles are really based on simple elegance, any party girl can approximate Oscar-winning glamour with a few simple tricks.
For updos, like Penélope Cruz's Oscar style, Fekkai says all you need are some hair products, a ponytail holder and a few bobby pins. If you have straight hair, make sure you wash your locks the night before for extra texture. The night of your event, put some mousse on your roots for volume, then place a few hot rollers in your hair. Leave them in for 10 to 15 minutes, then unroll. If hair looks a little curly, don't panic, he warns. It will come down.

Next, add a little glossing cream for shiny hair like Portia de Rossi's. Without brushing the hair, lift it into a high ponytail with your fingers, then section four or five pieces from the tail and twist into any shape you like. Pin the pieces, spritz some hairspray and voila! Instant glamour.
If you have curlier hair like Jessica Biel, Fekkai suggests doing the same thing, except you should pull your hair tight, so there's not too much volume up top.
If you want a sexy flowing look like Isla Fisher, the process is just as easy. For straight hair, Fekkai recommends changing your part an inch more to the side for a dramatic feel. Add some glossing cream for shine and a little body, then put small hot rollers on the bottom of your hair. It's so angelic and sexy, he says.
For curly girls, use a straightening balm, then push the hair back without a part. Smooth out the top and pull your hair behind your ears. Then twist the curls toward the bottom of your hair. In less than an hour, you'll look just as good as Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson.
