Hurley's Post-Hitch Hiccups

That whole "happily ever after" business is not going according to plan for Elizabeth Hurley and Arun Nayar.

Not once but twice were Hurley and her new husband forced to demolish a makeshift beachfront deck in Mumbai on which they planned to hold a postnuptial celebration, after local beachcombers complained that the monstrosity encroached on public sand.

The 41-year-old Estée Lauder pitcher and her 42-year-old textile heir hubby, who tied the knot in the English countryside Friday, brought 240 of their closest friends and family members with them to Nayar's native India on Monday to begin the second leg of their wedding bonanza, part of which was set to include a very private party on the very public Juhu Beach.

In preparation for the bash, local friends of the newlyweds constructed a massive wooden platform—23-feet long, 35-feet wide and 8-feet tall—connecting their home to the sea. After several complaints were lodged by residents, the host family was forced to demolish the illegal deck.

By Saturday afternoon, it was gone. But by Tuesday morning, it was back up.

Someone didn't read the memo very carefully.

After another round of complaints, the deck was once again torn down by officials.

Regardless, the party went on as planned Tuesday and already appears to be water under the bridge—at least for Hurley and Nayar.

The couple have already moved on to the next phase of their weeklong wedding festivities, which are set to culminate in Jodhpur at week's end, when the couple will tie the knot for the second time in a more traditional Hindu-style ceremony at the Umaid Bhawan Palace.

Last Friday, the duo made it official in a civil ceremony at the 15th century Sudeley Castle, in the Cotswold hills of Britain. They repeated their vows on Saturday in the chapel on the castle's grounds in front of 250 guests, including Kates Moss and Winslet, Elle Macpherson, Donatella Versace and Elton John, who gave Hurley away.

Hurley's five-year-old son Damian served as ring bearer. Hugh Grant, whom Hurley dated for 13 years before splitting in 2000, was not present.
