Hurley to Wed; Grant, Not So Much
The wedding bells are starting to chime louder for Elizabeth Hurley, while at the same time a different set of bells are tolling for Hugh Grant's latest relationship.
First up, Hurley and her textile-heir fiancé Arun Nayar have set the date, choosing Mar. 3 as the day they'll become husband and wife, according to documents the couple filed last week at the Cheltenham Register Office in Gloucester.
The British press has the duo tying the knot at Sudeley Castle, home of Hurley's good friend Henry Dent-Brocklehurst, and then continuing the celebration with a second ceremony in Bombay, where Nayar was born.
According to U.K. wire reports, Dent-Brocklehurst is also the godfather of Hurley's four-year-old son Damien, whose father is producer/philanthropist/playboy Stephen Bing.
Hurley, 41, confirmed last summer that Nayar, 42, had popped the question, although she rightfully denied rumors that they were going to swap vows in September. The details reported at the time, however (English countryside locale, second party in India, etc.), were pretty much on the money.
This will be the first trip down the aisle for the model and swimwear designer, who dated Grant for nearly 13 years but was never on the receiving end of a proposal. Nayar was previously married to Italian model Valentina Pedroni.
Hurley told Italian Vanity Fair in August that she figured she was already suited for married life.
"I was with Hugh for 13 years and we were like husband and wife so I don't think there will be any great difference," the Austin Powers star said.
Despite all that together-time, and the friendship they reportedly maintained after splitting up in 2000, Grant is not on the guest list, although longtime Hurley pals Elton John and Donatella Versace are.
If he were going to attend the Hurley-Nayar nuptials, however, Grant would have to start scrambling for another date.
The actor's rep confirmed Friday that he and socialite Jemima Khan have parted ways, despite their recent hand-holding at the Los Angeles and London premieres of Grant's latest film, Music and Lyrics, which opened Wednesday.
"Hugh and Jemima have decided to split amicably," publicist Robert Garlock said, putting to bed the rumor that Grant started himself, which was that he had finally "settled down."
Grant, 46, hooked up with the ex-wife of Pakistani-born cricket champ and politician Imram Khan about three years ago, giving British tabloids both a field day and an excuse to visit even more really exclusive vacation locales.
But, perhaps Khan wasn't content just being Grant's "girlfriend," the word he used as recently as Friday morning during an appearance on The View, agreeing with Barbara Walters that he'd been "domesticated" by the heiress, although the two maintained separate London households.
"They both finally realized it was over," a friend of Khan's told the U.K.'s Daily Mail. "When Jemima told Hugh, it didn’t surprise him—it wasn't a bolt from the blue—the relationship was effectively dead. She feels the relationship has run its course. She felt the relationship was probably never really sufficiently stable to move towards marriage.
"Jemima has been hugely, hugely fond of Hugh, and there's absolutely nobody else involved on either side. There's great sadness on her part but no acrimony, it is a dead relationship as far as she is concerned."
Grant, who burst onto the American scene in 1994 playing a bumbling-but-charming "serial monogamist" in Four Weddings and a Funeral, said in an interview in Vogue's February issue that the idea of taking the wife-and-kids plunge isn't as farfetched as he once thought it was.
"I remember reading a Warren Beatty quote when he finally had children and said what a relief it was to not be all me, me, me," the actor, who also mentioned that he doesn't see Hurley anymore, said. "As much as I adore myself, I'm quite keen to find someone else to care about more."
