Hepburn Goes Home
The ever-feisty 94-year-old actress was sprung from a Connecticut hospital Thursday morning, a week after being admitted for a urinary tract infection. A spokesman for Hartford Hospital says Hollywood's most lauded actress was released about 10 a.m. ET and headed home to her seaside retreat in nearby Old Saybrook.
Hepburn was originally supposed to check out last weekend, but while her infection healed nicely, several days spent in a hospital bed weakened her, and she needed the extra time to regain her strength, doctors said.
The fiercely private icon--who has battled Parkinson-like tremors, arthritis, pneumonia and other health woes in recent years--requested no further information be given out on her condition.
Hepburn retired from acting in the 1990s but left behind a mind-boggling legacy. She holds the record for most Oscar acting wins (four) and is tied for most nominations (12). Her made-for-TCM credits include The African Queen (1951), The Philadelphia Story (1940), Bringing Up Baby (1938), Holiday (1938), Little Women (1933), Morning Glory (1933), Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967), The Lion in Winter (1968) and On Golden Pond (1981).
In 1999, the American Film Institute chose Hepburn to top its list of the century's greatest screen legends.
