There was a lot of media barking this week about how Queen of Mean Leona Helmsley's will included a $12 million payout for her pet Maltese and $5 mil for a couple of grandkids (while stiffing a couple of others).
Blah, blah and woof, woof.
Everyone in the press seemed on a mission to dog the old bitch. Barely whispered in all the newsy froth was the fact that the mean, old dead lady left the bulk of her $2.5 billion estate to charity in a trust.
But since that inconvenient fact doesn't fit in with the Cruella de Vil caricature, it's been filtered out...
And while we'd love to have the pooch's $12 million dog-bone allowance, we have to say that this paltry sum is the equivalent to couch-cushion change to Helmsley. It's all relative, of course discounting those dis-inherited grandkids. She may deserve her Queen of Mean tag, but the press is a royal bunch of A-holes. So, throw Queenie a bone. At least in death, she done good.
