HBO Extends "Entourage"

Looks like Ari Gold will get another chance to hug it out.

HBO has given an early commitment for a fourth season of Entourage, ordering 12 more episodes of the inside-Hollywood series.

The renewal comes just halfway through the show's third season, which recently concluded the first part of its split, 20-episode season. The remaining eight episodes of season three are expected to air as the companion program to the Sopranos when the mob drama returns from its own agonizingly long hiatus in February or March.

"Entourage is a standout hit for HBO," the cable net's entertainment president, Carolyn Strauss, said in a statement. "Thanks to a terrific cast and razor-sharp writing and directing, this smart, funny show has become a genuine phenomenon."

The decision to continue production on the show is hardly a shocker as it's currently in the throes of its most successful season to date.

The show produced and inspired by Mark Wahlberg has averaged 2.6 million viewers in the first part of this season, according to Nielsen Media Research, considerably higher than its season two average of 1.9 million.

Jeremy Piven also picked up the show's first major award at last month's Emmys, nabbing the trophy for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy for his portrayal of the trash-talking agent Ari Gold.

When last we saw Ari at the conclusion of season three's 12th episode, he was unceremoniously fired by his meal ticket, out-of-work Hollywood heartthrob Vince Chase (Adrian Grenier). Meanwhile, Vince's has-been older brother, Johnny Drama (Kevin Dillon), is waiting to hear whether his pilot will get picked up.

HBO has yet to announce an official air date for Entourage's fourth season, though it's expected to air sometime in 2007.
