Hasselhoff in Denial
Before sitting down to prove that America's Got Talent, David Hasselhoff took the time to officially deny that he ever brutalized his wife.
The Baywatch icon has denied his estranged wife Pamela Bach's claims that he physically abused and mentally terrorized her, according to heavily redacted (lots of lines crossed out with black marker) court documents obtained by TMZ.com.
"I categorically deny each and every...allegation," Hasselhoff stated.
Those allegations encompassed a lot. In court documents, Bach has accused her soon-to-be-ex of breaking her nose, threatening to drive his car into the house and calling her extremely nasty names in front of their two daughters, Taylor, 16, and Hayley, 12.
Hasselhoff responded in an April court filing by claiming that his wife had an ongoing substance abuse problem and needed professional help--all of which she denied.
Things started off relatively easily enough, with Hasselhoff, who has had his own run-ins with alcohol-related troubles, filing for divorce Jan. 12 and blaming irreconcilable differences for what was then thought of as an amicable split.
In March, however, Bach requested a temporary restraining order against the former Knight Rider, saying that he had abused her in the past--which Hasselhoff promptly denied.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mark A. Juhas rejected Bach's motion but still ordered Hasselhoff to stay 100 yards away from Bach unless he happened to be exercising his rights to visit their kids. The judge also told both sides that they would have to submit to a psychiatric child custody evaluation to be performed by a mental health specialist to help get the story straight for the record.
Bach's detailed spousal misgivings were made public later that month. As it turned out, she had counter-filed for divorce the day after her husband moved to end the marriage, and that, since then, he had "terrorized" her twice, per her complaint.
Despite the rampant flinging of accusations, a judge has since awarded the warring pair joint custody of their children in an agreement that apparently was satisfactory to both parents.
In the meantime, Hasselhoff is heading for both the big and small screens this week, appearing in the new Adam Sandler comedy, Click, which hits theaters Friday and joining the judging trio on the Simon Cowell-produced America's Got Talent. The American Idol-ish competition show premiered Wednesday night on NBC.
