Hasselbeck Views Mommyhood
Seems like Elisabeth Hasselbeck has taken time to enjoy more than just The View.
The daytime cohost announced on air Thursday morning that she is 13-and-a-half weeks pregnant with her first child.
The unwitting studio audience was teased with a surprise before the chatfest even began, being promised news that would "change the ladies of 'The View forever." As the fearsome fivesome took to the stage, cohosts Meredith Vieira, Star Jones and Joy Behar--though not the show's dignified grand dame Barbara Walters--appeared wearing fake bellies and eating junk food.
The bun-in-the-oven news was revealed during the show's "Hot Topics" segment. Walters asked the audience to guess which one of the cohosts was pregnant, and after a round of "Barbara!" chants from the audience, Hasselbeck gave up the happy news.
"I'm nauseous, but I'm fine with that because it's all for a good cause," the mother-to-be announced to the cheering studio.
The former Elisabeth Filarski has been married to Washington Redskins quarterback Tim Hasselbeck for two years. She said she was "suprised" with the news and that she and her hubby are "thrilled." She also wants to keep the surprises coming--the expecting twosome won't find out the baby's sex until the birth, in either late March or early April.
Hasselbeck was selected last November to fill the estrogen-fueled talk show's designated "young person" seat. She took over from the gone-to-more-newsworthy-pastures Lisa Ling, who had earned her chair from the original opinionated twentysomething, Debbie Matenopolous.
Before landing the high-profile gab gig, Hasselbeck first appeared on the pop culture radar as one of the most popular contestants on CBS' second Survivor, set in the Australian Outback.
Hasselbeck also has shown a flair for fashion, hosting the Style Network's The Look for Less and designing footwear for Puma.
Now she has about six months to start working on her baby line.
