Halle to Suitor: Keep Away!

As if Halle Berry doesn't have enough on her mind with what's shaping up to be a bitter divorce battle with Eric Benét, now she's got to deal with nut jobs.

A Santa Monica judge granted a restraining order Monday against Louisiana native Greg Broussard, requiring him to stay at least 100 yards away from the Oscar winner after repeatedly dialing up Berry's phone and fax to say they were destined for each other.

Judge Linda K. Lefkowitz ordered Broussard, a 35-year-old ex-Navy diver and graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, to cease and desist all contact with Berry, manager Vincent Cirrincione and publicist Karen Samfilippo.

The preliminary injunction was issued following a short hearing in which Berry's attorney offered a declaration to the court on Berry's behalf saying how threatened she felt by Broussard's seemingly obsessive behavior. Berry said she was freaked out after Broussard kept calling and faxing her--at one point even sending an engagement ring--insisting that they would be a couple.

In her request for the restraining order two weeks ago, the 35-year-old Berry stated that Broussard "has imagined a relationship with me wherein he and I are engaged to be married and that my manager and publicist are preventing him from being with me.

"I do not know Mr. Broussard and do not wish to have any contact with him," she said.

Broussard, according to Berry's declaration, also incorrectly assumed Cirrincione was Berry's father, leaving the manager a target of Broussard's ire, including harassing phone calls in which "he has stated repeatedly that while 'he does not want to hurt anybody,' he will not be prevented from meeting with Ms. Berry."

Cirrincione said that Broussard "focused his threats on me because he believes I am the person standing in his way of an imagined relationship" with Halle.

As a result of Broussard's military past and his current "erratic behavior," such as his claim that "God told him to marry Ms. Berry," both manager and actress felt uneasy about their personal safety and sought the court's protection.

Berry's camp declined to comment on the ruling. Berry, Cirrincione and Samfilippo all stayed away from today's hearing. Berry attorney Blair Berk did not say how long the restraining order would be in effect, but typically such orders can be extended if necessary.

The Cleveland-born beauty's no stranger to restraining orders, having previously obtained one against her first husband, former baseball star David Justice, accusing him of harassing her after their marriage ended on a sour note in 1996.

Meanwhile, Berry's been busy mopping up after her ill-fated romance to Benét.

After hubby number two came clean about his cheating' heart (he's a self-confessed sex addict), Berry split from the 33-year-old R&B crooner last October and filed for divorce in April.

But signaling that he might not go quietly, Benét filed legal paperwork last week seeking to contest the couple's pre-nup.

No hearings have been scheduled on that matter.

Berry has plenty to keep her mind off the personal issues, though. Aside from shooting an Oprah Winfrey-Quincy Jones-produced small-screen adaptation of Zora Neale Hurston's classic novel Their Eyes Were Watching God, Berry is set to star in director Patricia Cardosa's Nappily Ever After as well as reunite with her Die Another Day helmer Lee Tamahori for The Guide. She's also signed to voice a character in the CGI-animated film Robots.

Next up is Catwoman, opposite Benjamin Bratt, opening July 23.
