"Gigli" Razzed

Bennifer may be done, but, as with all nuclear disasters, the fallout continues.

Gigli, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez's joint misfire, was nominated Monday for Worst Picture and eight other dishonors by voters of the Golden Raspberry Awards.

No other film received more anti-acclaim, although Mike Myers' Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat and American Idol vehicle From Justin to Kelly did their worst, coughing up eight Razzie nods each.

The Razzies, now in their 24th year, are the highest-profile bad-movie awards around. Winners, if that's what you'd call them, are set to be announced February 28 (the day before the Oscars) in Santa Monica, California.

Here's guessing Affleck and Lopez skip the shindig. Although, if they did attend, odds are they wouldn't go home without a spray-painted golf ball (what passes for a trophy at the Razzies).

Affleck is nominated for Worst Actor (a nomination that also took into account his performances in Daredevil and Paycheck); Lopez, for Worst Actress. Jointly, the former fun couple, who confirmed their bust up last week, is up for Worst Screen Couple.

Also cited for their allegedly Gigli bad work: Al Pacino, Lainie Kazan, Christopher Walken (additionally dinged for Kangaroo Jack) and writer-director Martin Brest.

Gigli, the cinematic punchline of 2003, was easily the year's most-dissed movie, and one of its biggest box-office busts to boot.

Given the abuse the film has already taken, and the demise of its stars' off-screen relationship, does Razzies founder John Wilson feel bad about piling it on?

"No, not really," Wilson said Monday. "They read the script before they made the movie."

Although Gigli is his show's most-prolific nominee, Wilson reserves his ire for another Razzies hopeful.

"With Gigli, they didn't start with something wonderful and turn it into garbage like Cat in the Hat did," Wilson said.

Myers' take on the beloved Dr. Seuss tale is up for, among others, Worst Picture, Worst Actor (Myers, natch) and Worst Excuse for an Actual Movie. The latter category is new. It seeks to single out movies that Razzie voters deign "all concept/no content."

The other Worst Picture contenders: Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, From Justin to Kelly and The Real Cancun.

Cuba Gooding Jr. and Ashton Kutcher were other Razzie standouts. Like Affleck, they earned their respective Worst Actor nominations on the strength, or lack thereof, of three films each. In Gooding's case, the onetime Oscar winner was razzed for Boat Trip, The Fighting Temptations and Radio. Kutcher was punk'd for Cheaper by the Dozen, Just Married and My Boss's Daughter.

Kutcher's girlfriends past (Brittany Murphy) and present (Demi Moore) were represented, as well. Murphy is a Razzie contender for Worst Supporting Actress (Just Married) and Worst Screen Couple (with Kutcher, for the same film). Moore stands accused of being less, in a supporting turn in Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle.

Also out Monday: Nominations for the Bad Cinema Society's 26th annual Stinkers Bad Movie Awards. Its field? In a word: Gigli, with 12 nominations.
