Gibson Takes on "Hogan's Heroes"?

The Road Warrior may be heading to Stalag 13.

Mel Gibson is close to bringing the POW camp hijinks of Hogan, Klink and Schultz to the big screen, Daily Variety reports.

Gibson's Icon Productions is negotiating with Paramount Pictures about developing Hogan's Heroes as a starring vehicle for the Lethal Weapon star. Paramount had optioned the movie rights to the series from CBS back in June.

For Gibson, it would be the second time he's taken a former TV role and put it into a movie, having been placed in James Garner's boots in the 1994 film Maverick.

Hogan' Heroes, which ran from 1965-71, featured Bob Crane as Col. Robert Hogan. He and his multinational band of Allied prisoners conspired to run an elaborate spy ring right under the nose of bumbling camp director Col. Klink (Werner Klemperer) and his henchman, Sgt. Schultz (John Banner).
