Gere Gears Up for Fatherhood
Just days after the supermodel gave birth to her first child comes word that Gere is expecting the birth of his first child.
The star's camp today confirmed that Gere and his longtime steady, actress Carey Lowell, will become parents sometime early next year.
Gere, who turns 50 in August, and Lowell, 38, have been a twosome since 1995--the same year Gere and Crawford officially terminated their four-year marriage.
Like Crawford, Lowell is a veteran of the catwalk scene, earning her keep as a cover-friendly fashion model before scoring her big Hollywood break as a Bond girl in 1989's Licence to Kill.
Unlike Crawford, who flamed out after 1995's Fair Game, Lowell's acting career has plugged along. She is best known for playing prosecutor Jamie Ross on NBC's Law & Order from 1996-98.
Lowell has a daughter by ex-husband Griffin Dunne, the actor, producer and director.
While he awaits his child with Lowell, Gere can dote on his latest non-baby production. Runaway Bride, the comedy reuniting Gere with Pretty Woman costar Julia Roberts, opens in theaters July 30.
In other nursery news, singer/talk-show host Marie Osmond, 39, populated the Earth yet again on Tuesday, giving birth to an 8-pound, 4-ounce boy dubbed Matthew. Mother and son are said to be doing fine.
The baby is Osmond's sixth with husband Brian Blosil, including two adoptions. She also has a son from her first marriage.
The little-bit-country performer is due to begin work on the second season of her talk show with little-bit-rock-'n'-roll sibling Donny in August.
