George Michael is lucky to be alive.

The noticeably thin "Faith" singer held a press conference outside his North London home Friday, thanking his doctors and fans for helping him beat his life-threatening battle with pneumonia, according to the U.K.'s Telegraph.

"I got streptococca-something...It's a form of pneumonia and [doctors] spent three weeks keeping me alive basically," Michael said during the press conference. "I'm very weak but I feel amazing."

Details of Michael's condition have been kept under wraps since he was hospitalized in the midst of his European tour and was forced to cancel many performances last month, but he said he wanted to keep his health issues private for the sake of his fans.

"I didn't want to worry my fans too much and I'm really sorry that I couldn't contact them in any way before now, but I was really not in any state to," Michael went on.

But there was much to worry about.

Michael said he nearly died during his month-long fight with the illness, saying it had been "touch and go" while he was staying in the intensive care unit of a Vienna hospital.

Before Michael ended the press conference, he was asked if the ordeal changed his life, to which he replied: "Absolutely. I'm a new man."

"I have an amazing, amazing life and if I wasn't spiritual enough before the last four or five weeks, I certainly am now."

Michael also promised to perform for every fan that bought a ticket to see him in concert.

Gotta have faith, indeed.
