George Michael: Careless Driver?

It seems George Michael is on a collision course with the law these days.

Police quizzed the ex-Wham! frontman after his Range Rover Whammed into a series of cars. All told, according to London's Daily Mirror, Michael slammed into three vehicles on a street outside his North London mansion and took off without telling anyone.

Michael's neighbors reported hearing a loud bang around 8 a.m. Sunday morning and saw the popster drive away in his SUV, per the Mirror, leaving one dinged-up car in his wake. The entertainer eventually returned, but, as one purported witness told the tabloid, "I spotted George Michael, sitting there, staring at us. He didn't look too good."

At that point, the 42-year-old singer attempted to leave again only to crash into a second car, the force of which propelled it into a third vehicle. Finally, the "Freedom" singer reportedly managed to speed off without striking any other vehicles. One of his reps phoned police later that day and reported the bump and run.

Two detectives paid a visit to Michael on Tuesday afternoon and interviewed him for 90 minutes. No charges were filed, however.

"The registered owner has now been spoken to. He was not arrested. He was interviewed under caution and a file will be submitted to the Metropolitan Police's operational command unit," a police spokeswoman told the Mirror.

A spokesman for Michael was unavailable for comment, but reports indicate the singer's insurance company is expected to cover the cost of damages done to the cars, estimated at around $8,000.

Sunday's smashup is Michael's latest tale of woe.

In February, he was busted on suspicion of possessing cannabis and liquid Ecstasy, after being discovered slumped over the wheel of his car. After being detained for seven hours at a police station, he was bailed out and later expressed regret over the incident.

"It's my own stupid fault, as usual," Michael said in a statement. (That was apparently a nod to his infamous 1998 arrest in Los Angeles for engaging in lewd behavior in front of a plainclothes policeman in a public restroom, which prompted him to reveal he was gay.)

Michael, who announced last November plans to marry his longtime companion, Kenny Goss, in a civil ceremony later this year, has admitted to doing drugs in the past to combat depression.
