Almost seems bittersweet, right? Some of your favorite soaps get canceled and then honored. If they were so deserving of accolades, why not leave them on air, right? But alas, that's showbiz, kids.
This morning, the nominations for the 38th annual Daytime Emmy Awards were unveiled, with General Hospital (call it the James Franco effect) scoring a leading 21 nominations. Hot on its tail (it's jealous evil twin of sorts) was The Young and the Restless, which earned 20, followed by Sesame Street, with 16.
But enough with the numbers. We want the snubs! The sweeps! The huhs?! So here are some cold, hard facts—five of them, actually—you need to know about the Daytime Emmy nominations.
James Franco: Cut Off Arm Because of General Hospital

Remember when James Franco hung up his movie star digs for a guest spot on General Hospital...twice? Totally bizarre, we know, but that's James' M.O. these days. And trust, we wouldn't put anything past this alleged Twi-hard anymore.
We caught up with some of his former coworkers from the daytime soap at Wednesday night's Cougar Style Soirée at Hotel Palomar (they were there to make sure the even met the sexy young men quota, of course) and asked them what it was like to have the A-lister on the set:

James Franco Paying Another Visit to the Hospital

A familiar face is going to be showing up in Port Charles soon.
ABC has announced thespian, future-Ph.D holder and all-around-person-who's-smarter-than-you James Franco will be returning to General Hospital as the mysterious Franco—yep, his character is named Franco—hell-bent on wreaking mystery, murder and mayhem.

Max Ryan has gone from the bright lights of NYC to the fluorescent lights of the ER.
The 42-year-old Brit, who plays a love interest of Kim Cattrall's Samantha Jones in Sex and the City 2, is in stable condition at a Los Angeles hospital after being involved in a head-on collision Monday morning on his motorcycle, his rep confirmed to E! News.
According to rep Erik Kritzer, another motorist turned in front of Ryan and they ran smack into each other, leaving the actor trapped under the car.
"Max is stabilized," Kritzer said. "According to attending physicians, he has broken five ribs and cracked his collarbone. Max wants to thank the emergency services for responding so quickly."
And we wish Ryan a speedy recovery, in time to walk the red carpet with Cattrall, onscreen rival Jason Lewis and the rest of the SATC2 cast.
