Gary Collins Getting Help
The court's willing to wait for now.
Gary Collins' arraignment on drunken-driving charges was postponed Friday while the former TV host completes a stint in rehab.
The 69-year-old actor's attorney said in court that Collins checked into a 60-day treatment facility on Oct. 25, two days after he was arrested on suspicion of DUI following a car accident caused by another driver.
Collins was driving in Sherman Oaks at about 5 p.m. on Oct. 23 when an 89-year-old driver failed to yield to oncoming traffic and turned into Collins' vehicle, causing the Circus of the Stars personality to lose control of his Ford Explorer and plow into two parked cars.
When police arrived at the scene, they smelled alcohol on Collins' breath and administered field sobriety tests. After failing those, Collins was taken into custody, booked for DUI and released after posting $40,000 bail.
He was charged Oct. 29 with two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence and driving with a blood-alcohol level above 0.08 percent. Arraignment has been rescheduled for Dec. 6, according to the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office.
Collins is facing up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted.
