Gary Collins Charged with DUI

The repercussions have ensued.

Actor and erstwhile TV emcee Gary Collins was charged Monday with two counts of misdemeanor driving under the influence and driving with a blood-alcohol level higher than 0.08 percent, stemming from his arrest last week following a traffic accident caused by another driver, according to the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office.

His arraignment has been scheduled for Nov. 16. He's facing a maximum sentence of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted.

Collins was busted on Oct. 23 shortly after 5:30 p.m. after, ironically, another driver plowed into him as he motored through Sherman Oaks.

According to police, an 89-year-old man driving a Toyota sedan didn't yield to oncoming traffic and hit Collins' Ford Explorer. The former Hour Magazine host then lost control of his own vehicle and struck two parked cars.

"He was not at fault in the accident," LAPD spokesman April Harding confirmed last week.

But, per the LAPD, when officers arrived at the scene, they smelled alcohol on Collins' breath and administered a field sobriety test, which he failed. The 69-year-old personality was taken into custody at Van Nuys Jail, where he as booked for misdemeanor DUI and released after posting $40,000 bail.

Collins was reportedly uninjured, but the elder driver was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

Facing a similar drunken-driving charge in wife Mary Ann Mobley's home state of Mississippi in 2002, Collins was exonerated when the case went to trial.
