Gary Coleman Sued for Fan Bashing
Tracy Fields, a Los Angeles bus driver, is demanding the money from the pint-sized ex-Diff'rent Strokes star because, she claims, she's suffered headaches and muscle spasms since the alleged attack.
Last Thursday, Fields and Coleman, now a mall security guard, were both shopping in the Hawthorne, California, store--she was looking for shorts, he a bulletproof vest. Fields recognized the onetime child actor and asked for an autograph, the suit says. Coleman agreed.
Fields asked him to personalize the note for her son--and that, according to the suit, ticked off the 4-foot-8 Coleman.
The bus driver then told Coleman, 30, his attitude was what kept him from getting post-Strokes acting jobs. "So he snatched the paper up and tore it to pieces," she says. "He hit me in my eye really hard, and I was dazed for a minute. I just couldn't believe it."
An off-duty cop eventually pulled Coleman off Fields, the suit says, and then the actor ran out to his truck and sped away.
The next day, after police issued a warrant, Coleman surrendered and was booked on assault and battery charges. He'll be arraigned August 25.
If convicted, he could face up to a year in jail, $1,000 fine and loss of his security-guard license.
