Game Scratches Plea Deal

The Game is apparently going for the win.

The "Let's Ride" rapper has rejected a plea deal from New York prosecutors in exchange for copping to a charge of impersonating a police officer.

"He showed up in court today and there were some filings of motions, standard legal stuff," said Edison Alban, spokesman for the Manhattan District Attorney's Office. "The district attorney's office recommended that if he pleaded guilty to the top charge of criminal impersonation in the second degree, he'd get a time-served sentence. His defense attorney, however, refused it."

Game's attorney, Jeffrey Lichtman, said his client nixed the offer because it would have meant admitting guilt for something he didn't do.

"Why should he plead guilty to bogus charges for a non-jail sentence if he's innocent?" the lawyer said. "And he is innocent. It's rare that I have a 100 percent innocent defendant, but this is one."

The Game, whose real name is Jayceon Taylor, was collared last November after he and two pals embarked on a wild taxi ride.

According to a police report, the Grammy-nominated hip-hopster hailed a livery cab, told the cabbie he was an undercover cop, flashed a badge and convinced the driver to run several red lights. After 13 blocks, New York's real-deal finest pulled over the vehicle and took the rapper into custody.

A pretrial hearing has been scheduled for Sept. 20.

That should give The Game's legal eagles time to focus on his other criminal charges on the West Coast.

The 27-year-old Compton emcee has pleaded not guilty to three felony charges stemming from a pickup basketball game gone awry back in February.

According to authorities, Game flashed a gun and threatened a player from an opposing team after a courtside scuffle broke out. Police arrested him last month, after executing a search warrant in his suburban Los Angeles home.

He faces one count of making a criminal threat, possessing a firearm in a school zone and exhibiting a firearm in the presence of a police officer, charges which could land him up to five years in state prison if convicted. The Game remains free on $50,000 bail pending a June 27 hearing.
