The Game to Play Out in Court

The legal system isn't just playing around with the Game.

A Los Angeles judge has ordered the rapper to stand trial on three felony counts stemming from his February run-in with a member of the opposing team during a pickup basketball game at a Compton, Calif., educational center.

The Game, whose real name is Jayceon Taylor, is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 25 to answer to charges of making a criminal threat, possessing a firearm in a school zone and exhibiting a firearm on the grounds of a facility for minors.

During a preliminary hearing Tuesday, Rodrick Shannon testified that he and the Game exchanged words during the Feb. 24 game and then the "How We Do It" purveyor called his team "garbage" and punched him in the left cheek.

Then, Shannon said, as members of the Game's team grabbed him, the rapper went to his Cadillac Escalade and returned holding a gun.

"He started proceeding towards me," Shannon said. "The gun was still in his hand. He yelled that I’m a [expletive] fool. I turned around and ran because I feared for my life." The seemingly hotheaded artist did not actually point the gun at him, however, the witness said.

On cross-examination, Shannon denied that he planned to file a civil lawsuit against the Game.

The Game wasn't arrested in connection with the fight until May after police executed a search warrant on his Glendale home. As he was being taken into custody, he told onlookers and reporters, "I want to say that I'm not guilty and that I love California."

50 Cent's nemesis spent a few hours in custody and was released on $50,000 bail. He is facing up to at least five years in prison if convicted on all charges. He pleaded not guilty on all counts on June 7.

Meanwhile, the Game isn't looking to roll over any time soon as far as any legal matters are concerned.

He is also scheduled to be in a New York court on Sept. 20 for allegedly trying to impersonate a police officer in order to take a super-speedy cab ride last November. The Game nixed a plea deal that would have had him copping to criminal impersonation in the second degree and receiving a time-served sentence.
