Game Denies Mixing Basketball with Gunplay
The Game just got serious.
The "Let's Ride" rapper, whose real name is Jayceon Terrell Taylor, pleaded not guilty Thursday to three felony charges stemming from his arrest last month for allegedly pulling a gun during a scuffle at a student learning center back in February.
The Game was charged Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court with making a criminal threat, possessing a firearm in a school zone and exhibiting a firearm in the presence of a police officer. He is facing more than five years in prison if convicted on all counts.
According to prosecutors, the 27-year-old L.A. native was playing in a pickup basketball game Feb. 4 at the Rita Walters Educational Learning Complex in Compton, near where he grew up, when he got into a fight with a member of the opposing team. After punching the guy, the Game retrieved a pistol from his Cadillac Escalade and threatened to shoot him, authorities say.
50 Cent's on-again nemesis wasn't actually arrested until May 11, when police showed up at his home in Glendale to execute a search warrant. The hip-hop star spent a few hours in custody before being released on $50,000 bail.
Local news crews caught the cops leading the Game out of his home in handcuffs. Spying the cameras and the crowd of onlookers, the rapper said, "I want to say that I'm not guilty, and that I love California."
But while he's most likely through with the SoCal justice system until his next court hearing June 27, the Game is scheduled to appear in New York next week to answer to charges related to his November arrest for allegedly impersonating an undercover police officer and encouraging a cab driver to ignore traffic signals.
